Championships Remain Wide Open After Round Two

A warm day greeted players for the second round of the Championships, with several strong scores recorded. Debbie Roberts won the Division 1 daily competition with 65, while Trish Warby also scored 65 to take the Division 2 honours.

Trish claimed nearest the pin on the ninth hole, while Debbie recorded the best second shot on the 18th.

Balls went to Trish, Debbie, Monica Cullen (70), Barbara Ubrihien (73), Wendy Hergenhan (73) and Janelle Holdsworth (74).

Progressive Championship Standings

Division 1: Gross — Elyse Cuzner, 159; Nett — Debbie Roberts, 136.

Division 2: Gross — Janelle Holdsworth, 210; Nett — Amanda Watkins, 137.

Division 3: Gross — Trish Warby, 216; Nett — Lorraine Gregson, 147.

Several players remain close to the leaders, so the Championships are far from decided.

Wendy will conduct a seeded draw for Saturday.

Entries are now being accepted for the Singles Matchplay, with the sign-up list available in the Ladies’ Room. Names are also needed as soon as possible for the Jellat Cup, which will be held on Saturday, 10 October.

18 Hole Competition

Janet Fires 44 Points in Stableford Victory

There was some impressive scoring in today’s Stableford competition, led by Janet Furnell, who produced an outstanding 44 points to claim victory. Shirley Newlove finished runner-up with an excellent 40 points. Balls went to Janet, Shirley, Kate Walker (37) and Barbara Ubrihien (35). Janet capped off her day by winning nearest the pin and recording the best second shot on the 18th hole.

9 Hole Competition

Despite last night’s shower, there was still plenty of run on the course for the Bega nine-hole women golfers. Maree Hergenhan won the Stableford with an impressive 20 points, with Sheila Schilling finishing runner-up.

Pam Crooks also had an eventful day when she found a ball she believed she had lost several years ago. It was lodged in an old apple gum tree to the right of the 13th fairway, and the tree had grown so completely around it that the ball could not be removed.

Coincidentally, another group playing in the 18-hole competition also spotted the ball that day.

Not to be outdone, the other photo shows Maria Marr’s ball lodged in one of the beautiful gum trees on the front nine.

Monday Report - 28th September

The Monday 9 hole ladies played the back course today. We all played very well, especially Gloria Clarke, with a magnificent 29 points! We hope Maree Hergenhan will be back with us next week for the Championship.

R&A Rules of Golf

Rule 18.2a

When Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds

(1) When Ball Is Lost. A ball is lost if not found in three minutes after the player or their caddie begins to search for it. If a ball is found in that time but it is uncertain whether it is the player’s ball:

  • The player must promptly attempt to identify the ball (see Rule 7.2) and is allowed a reasonable time to do so, even if that happens after the three-minute search time has ended.
  • This includes a reasonable time to get to the ball if the player is not where the ball is found.

If the player does not identify their ball in that reasonable time, the ball is lost. (2) When Ball Is Out of Bounds. A ball at rest is out of bounds only when all of it is outside the boundary edge of the course. A ball is in bounds when any part of the ball:

  • Lies on or touches the ground or anything else (such as any natural or artificial object) inside the boundary edge, or
  • Is above the boundary edge or any other part of the course.
  • A player may stand out of bounds to play a ball on the course.
